We have lift off! The Are We There Yet blog is now live, bringing weekly updates of rally preparation, and daily updates when possible during the rally. (The internet’s is apparently a rare breed once we leave europe). As this is our first post I thought i’d tell the story so far.
In late October I competed in a 80km horseback endurance race ride with my trusty steed, Jamal at the Red Dragon Festival of endurance, in builth wells, Wales. The race itself as a bit of a disaster with us placing at 2nd after 60km. It was not to last, with Jamal injuring himself, and having to take the last 20km slowly. That night there was a talk by one of the Adventurist’s on the mongol derby, this seemed like an awsome challange, untill I saw out the entry fee. £8,000!!, My heart sunk, but this lead me to the Adventurist’s website two nights later where i discovered the Mongol Rally, With its far lower entry fee that can be split between a team. Not only that but my first car, a 1998 Nissan Micra would be the perfect motor to take me and a yet unknown team to Mongolia. I immediately went to tell my mates of this adventure, with Jack Edwards being the first confirmed rallier, and Jack Addams being a maybee. I then rushed to pay the first deposit to make sure that it was happening. It wasnt till early january that jack addams confirmed his attendance, and thus the Are We There Yet team was born.
Since then small preparations have been made for the rally with our route being confirmed, South though turkey, north through georgia and russia then south again to kazakhstan, uzbekistan, Tajikistan, kyrgyzstan, north again through kazakhstan then east to UlaanBaatar, We also have a team website: are-we-there-yet.wix.com/mongol-rally, team Facebook page: facebook.com/AreWeThereYetMongolRally and have also raised £158 for charity, and more on its way soon when we collect all our charity collection tins from shops in our hometown, Tregaron. In addition we have raised about £100 from advertising on our car.
We do have a lot to do, and we will keep you updated.
